Conference – Reinventing Liberalism !

Conference – Reinventing Liberalism !

What if a limitless expansion of the market was the best way to abolish rents ?

The more radical liberals today contest private property, even if it used to be one of the fundamental principles of liberalism. Glen Weyl and Eric Posner offer an alternative to socialism in view of the crisis of neoliberalism. To make markets efficient we must break the monopoly of private property, they argue in Radical Markets. Property’s value resides in its use, i.e. the purpose of exchanges. Markets replace people’s sovereignty.

By contrast, Gaspard Koenig offers another sort of radical individualism: the re-establishment of property as the possibility for each one of us to empower oneself.

Those are the issues that Glen WEYL, economist and researcher at Microsoft and Gaspard KOENIG, philosopher and president of GenerationLibre will discuss on Wednesday, October 24th from 8 to 10am.
Kenneth Cukier, journalist for The Economist will be the moderator.
